If you’ve ever been puzzled by a warning light in your Lexus, then you’re not alone. Things don’t often go wrong with Lexus vehicles that receive their recommended maintenance, which is why it’s easy for longtime Lexus drivers to be unfamiliar with warning lights when they occasionally appear.

With this in mind, here are a few lights to recognize during driving situations or if they remain visible after starting the vehicle (many will briefly appear for a system check during startup, which is normal). They’re a cross-section of alerts found in many Lexus models, but note that some indicators vary between models and model years, so always consult your owner’s manual, or call your dealership, if you have a question about a warning light.

The numbered lights above correspond to the numbered info below:

           Tire Pressure Warning Light:

If this indicator comes on and is solid right away, it means a tire’s air pressure is low. Simply adjust the inflation pressure to the vehicle’s recommended level, found in your owner’s manual, or have your dealership do this for you. The light should turn off after a few minutes. If it stays on after you’ve added air, you could have a leak, in which case you should bring it to your Lexus dealership. Also important: if this light blinks for a minute before remaining solid, it means there’s a malfunction with the tire monitoring system—in this case, bring your care into Luxury Motorworks to inspect the system.

           Brake System Warning Light:

This red light can indicate an issue with the brake system, such as low brake fluid or a brake system malfunction. If it suddenly appears (a buzzer may also sound), stop in a safe place as soon as possible and contact your roadside assistance—continuing to drive the vehicle could be dangerous.

           Oil Pressure Warning Light:

Depending on your model and model year, this indicator may show as a red or white icon on the multi-informational display, along with a message and buzzer. The light indicates low or abnormal oil pressure in the engine. It’s important to follow the message’s instruction, which may require you to stop in a safe place immediately (if so, call roadside assistance or Luxury Motorworksbefore driving farther).

These are just a few of the warning lights that can appear on your Lexus dash in your car. To better familiarize yourself with those lights, you can refer back to your owner’s manual or give us a call at Luxury Motorworks today!

Why Is My Car Shaking When I Stop

Bad spark plugs are another common cause of your car vibrating when stopped. Dirt and carbon deposit build up will not allow your spark plugs to fire properly

Diagnosing a car that shakes when stopped or idling but not while driving is much easier than trying to figure out why it’s vibrating while accelerating. This is simply since the only part moving while you’re stopped is the engine.

The good news is that you can be confident the rough idle issue is engine-related and you can focus all your troubleshooting in that area. The bad news is that an engine is as complicated as it gets when we’re talking about parts of a car.

Common Causes of Your Car Shaking When You Stop

           Worn or Dirty Spark Plugs

Bad spark plugs are another common cause of your car vibrating when stopped. Dirt and carbon deposit build up will not allow your spark plugs to fire properly to ignite the fuel. This leads to the engine misfiring which will feel like the vehicle is shaking at idle.

Unless you’ve done so recently, replacing your spark plugs can often make things right. There are many types of spark plugs so you want to make sure you’re getting the correct ones. You should always refer to your owner’s manual for the exact specs. The best spark plugs for your car may be totally different than the plugs your neighbor raves about.

           Torn or Cracked Timing Belt

A timing belt (or another serpentine belt) which is stretched, cracked, or partially torn can also cause your car to shake when idling. In case of a timing belt, it is a warning sign of a soon-to-be timing belt failure which you should appreciate. If your timing belt completely breaks, it can result in major damage to your engine.

           Dirty Air Filter

Along with an interrupted fuel supply (see dirty/clogged injector above), if your engine’s air intake is interrupted, it can also lead to your engine vibrating and not running as smooth as it should be. When your air filter is dirty or clogged, not enough air reaches the combustion chamber meaning not enough fuel is injected.

This combination will cause your RPM to drop below the normal idle range (usually about 700 RPM), and your car will experience some shaking when you are stopped. In some cases, the RPM will drop low enough where the car stalls and needs to be restarted.

           Faulty Mass Air Flow Sensor

Probably the least common reason for your car shaking while stopped, a bad mass air flow sensor (MAF) can be the culprit. Since its purpose is to properly calculate the air-fuel ratio for the engine, if it goes bad and sends incorrect readings to the car’s computer, the wrong amount of fuel can get injected into the engine at the wrong times.

As already explained above, when not enough fuel gets into the engine than what’s needed, excess vibrating or shaking can be felt. A bad MAF will almost always cause the check engine light to go on so a scan of any stored diagnostic trouble codes can confirm the issue.

It can be concerning when your car shakes, but we can fix it! Give us a call at Luxury Motorworks to keep you safely on the road.

Locate the coolant reservoir (usually a translucent plastic tank) and eyeball the level of the coolant against the full and low indicators.

Just like human beings, the car needs to dissipate heat in order to avoid overheating and exhaustion. During combustion, the engine produces large amount of heat – about 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit. This is too much for the engine to bear so a cooling system is needed to keep it at a normal temperature. Cars usually overheat due to a damaged part in the cooling system, especially the radiator, the heart of the cooling system. It is therefore necessary that all its auto parts must be in proper working condition to ensure that the whole system works efficiently.

Aside from the radiator, the cooling system is composed water pump, freeze plugs, head gasket, thermostat, hoses, heater core, fan clutch and radiator fan. All these auto parts have special roles to perform thus the absence of one could significantly affect the whole cooling process and of course, the engine’s performance. Take for example the hose, this may seem to be just an ordinary part but once broken, the coolant can escape and so it’s no longer possible for the system to cool the engine. Even just the cap of the radiator is important. It holds the pressure in the cooing system; thereby, affects its stability.

How does the cooling system of your car work? The coolant, which is a mixture of anti-freeze and water, is the one that absorbs the heat from the engine. It is drawn by the water pump from the radiator and is pumped through the engine block and the cylinder head to absorb the heat from the engine and its parts. It goes back to the receiving tank of the radiator through the radiator hose. The radiator has tubes that contain large amount of water and has a fin area to allow outside air to pass through. As the coolant spreads over the top of the radiator tubes, it transfers heat to the air.

The performance of your car is greatly dependent on your cooling system. No matter how gutsy its engine is, it can’t work normally without a cooling system. The engine can even be inutile in an instant if it overheats and all other auto parts under the hood can also be damaged. They could melt as the engine burns the fuel inside the combustion chamber and the pistons in the cylinder could expand extremely that they can no longer move to complete the whole process in the engine.

Your car can possibly overheat as well. Engine overheating is one of the most common problems auto users encounter. You can avoid this by adding water to your radiator. So if you notice a problem on a particular part in your cooling system, consult the best auto mechanic in town. But if you think the problem is worst, you may as well replace it right away.
